“Personally speaking, Aikido is considered as one of the most abstract Japanese martial arts in my honest experience because of the variety of interpretations in movements and techniques that from a beginner’s perspective, is quite hard to understand at first glance. As a teacher, I feel that it is my responsibility to bridge that gap by building the fundamentals of an Aikidoka and provide practical reasoning as to why the movements are performed in a certain manner. It is essentially important to convey this to beginners as it provides better insight when learning from even higher-level Aikido teachers through our yearly Aikido seminars.”
Despite his current rank as a teacher, Hamzah Sensei still believes in Shoshin, the beginner’s mindset whereby there are still aspects of his Aikido that requires further refinement and mastery till today.
